What about you? Do I need to get the bactine out for more than just myself?

[He pulled himself up, starting the slow drag up to the roof up along rusted metal that needed oiling. But it was sturdy enough to manage his weight along with Bucky's, so he wasn't too concerned. Not about the ladder, anyway. More about what had Bucky home early and if it was something that needed to be seen to.]

( bucky waited until matt was a good way up before following, eyes focused on the task rather than the direction. )

Bactine? ( too modern for him to recognize off the bat, but at least the context clues said enough. ) I'm fine. Nothing amiss. Few bruises, but nothing serious.

( especially with the serum. )

I know it's hard to think anything might go well, but it can happen sometimes.

Any bruises that need any particular attention?

[He was grinning as he made his way up, knowing he was pushing his luck a little, but lightening the mood was his defense mechanism. Bucky was back, in one piece, and he hadn't wound up bleeding more than a little tonight. As far as nights went, it was a good one.]

( there was a small laugh below matt's feet. )

Well, I'm sure one of them could use a little help.

What about that noggin of yours? I'm sure you'll have something purple or black by the morning.

[The laugh made his smile brighten, and he made quick work at getting to the roof, pulling himself over and waiting for Bucky.]

I'll take some Aspirin when I get back. No new beats to the head is probably the best thing. This bruise that needs attention wouldn't be on your backside, would it?

( pausing near the top, he took a moment to set the counterweight, drawing the ladder back up with a harsh scrape of metal and a rough clatter. bucky winced himself from the noise, and then looked sheepishly up at matt with a frown. )

Shit. Sorry. I. That. ( with a grunt akin to a frustrated groan, he climbed over the edge proper and sighed. )

Glad it'll only be an aspirin, really. And, well, wouldn't want to spoil the surprise now would I?

[That noise certainly was something that had him feeling like nails were being clawed on the inside of his brain. He couldn't quite stop the wince, shaking his head a bit afterward and giving Bucky a look that was fortunately masked by his helmet.]

You're just setting yourself up to be stripped entirely when we get back.

Odd way to dole out punishment, sir. ( ...which was used to avoid the use of matt's name. ) But I suppose I consider myself the adventurous sort.

( regardless, he set a sympathetic hand to matt's shoulder briefly. bucky hadn't enjoyed the noise himself. that only meant it was that much worse for the other man. )

If you were more adventurous, the stripping would commence now. You're lucky I'm lenient.

[He couldn't stop the smirk at the 'sir'. He took an assessment of his own aches and pains and the worst of it was what he'd gotten in the recent fight; the hit to the head and the sting of the cut on his leg. Not bad enough to limp, so maybe he could hide it until they got back.]

Sir sounds weird from you.

( with an amused huff, ) Probably cause you're not my CO, and I haven't had one in decades. That and. Well. Military thing, I guess.

( but bucky didn't exactly draw away. in fact his hand lingered. )

Not sure how the rest of the world might feel if naked pictures of us getting frisky on a rooftop make their way onto the Internet.

[Matt had almost turned away, but he seemed to be hypersensitive to Bucky, and that hand not moving away had his smiling turing into something warmer. His head tipped a bit as he concentrated and took a good listen around them.]

Nearest security system on a roof is five over that way.

[He lifted and pointed off in a way that wasn't on the way to his place.]

Also not sure how much I care about what the world thinks of me. You... more so.

( well, that surely answered some questions. bucky laughed gently, stepping in closer and leaning in to speak lowly between the two of them. )

So what you're saying is you've got fantasies about this.

[He couldn't stop the way his pulse sped up when Bucky stepped in, glad that he was the one with the ability to pick it up.]

I have fantasies about a lot of things. But you did come sweeping in to save me. And it was very hot. Your voice did this thing...

[He bit his lip, not quite able to stop the smile.]

"This thing"?

( he stayed close, void lowered. )

Mm... got all... dark. Deep. There's something arousing about the idea of you being angry. Pretty sure you've figured out I like that with how often I wind up pissing you off.

[Matt's foot shifted so that he was leaning in a little more, picking up on the scents of Bucky from how close he was. That heat. And yet again, he found the lower half of his uniform getting uncomfortable.]

( ah. ) Can't say it'd surprise me if you were ever doing it on purpose.

( chuckling softly, he gave matt's shoulder a squeeze, what little that did manage to gesture through the padding. )

Well. I do feel a little daring, tonight. Maybe just a kiss.

[A heartbeat of a hesitation, and then Matt took the offer at face value. He leaned in and pressed his lips to Bucky's. It had been days since he'd last been able to do so, and that familiar taste melted into him, soothing something that had been pacing in his psyche since the man had left. He felt a shudder go through him, his hand moving to grab at him before he pulled it back. Just a kiss. Just a kiss. Play in the rules, Matt.]

( he could anticipate the urgency, underlying hunger unfed in all the time he'd been apart, but even bucky could feel the spike of arousal in himself when matt's lips found his. there was something awfully dangerous about entertaining what the contact meant. and there was an undeniable part of him that found it enticing.

still, his hand held steady, not arguing against the withdrawal of matt's hand despite a tug against his mind that he should. bucky left the contact chaste, though he lingered, considered the prospect of more. )

[When the kiss ended, Matt was breathing heavier than a kiss like that warranted. It surprised him how quickly he went from teasing to entirely turned on and needy, and he licked his lips, getting the taste of Bucky further in his mouth and letting out a soft sigh.]

I think... it's in our best interest to get home quickly. I'm... fuck. It's not the hit to the head that's making me not able to think right now.

I'm sure the diverted blood flow won't exactly help your head feel better anyway. ( gently. but he stepped back, nudging matt gently onward. )

Lead the way, then. I need to get a look at your head anyway, before anything else.

That blood flow's been diverted since you got here.

[A smirk, but he took the nudge and turned with a heavy and regretful sigh. One night, he'd get Bucky to play along. One dark, sweaty, night. The thought made him grin.]

We'll do a mutual going over of each other. I still want to make sure for myself you're in one piece.

You say that, and it just makes me wanna pop off my arm just to be contrary. ( teasing, of course. he'd never use it for something so petty.

but maybe one day. one day when he felt less concerned for matt's comfort, missed matt a little less than he did in the moment, felt a little more energized by the idea and wasn't drained from a trip out and then back. )

Don't worry, darling. I'll take care of you proper.

Maybe I want to take care of you? You're the international one. Super soldier or not, I'm sure you didn't go easy on yourself.

[And he couldn't do anything about making him take a moment when he needed one when the man was halfway across the planet. He supposed he should be happy that he stayed on the damn planet and wasn't involved in interstellar adventures.]

No popping your arm off. Then I'll have to put in earplugs and be deaf and blind.

( brb chartering a spacecraft. joking aside, bucky did find the prospect of taking his adventures off world greatly enticing. )

Oh, we know you can hear right through those earplugs, pal. ( he grinned faintly at that, feeling a kinship from that understanding of matt. ) And anyway, like you're much innocent about going easy on yourself either.

What's that? I can't hear you. I'm deaf. Oh, poor me. Deaf and blind. Boo hoo. However will I manage?

[He shot Bucky a quick pout, but then he turned back before he ruined it with a grin. The back and forth over their disabilities was part of what made him like Bucky so much. That he didn't pull his punches in that regard.]

I'm still breathing. Can't be that bad.
