How long is that going to take? [She's never been the most patient.]

Guess your doctor will tell you that tomorrow. If it's just a sprain or a bruise, maybe a couple weeks. Longer if it's broken.

[Oh, he knew she wasn't going to like the sound of that. Alexis seemed to have a pretty healthy sexual appetite. He wouldn't be pleased to hear that himself.]

Wait. You think I should see a doctor for this? It's really not that bad!

[She's pretty certain it's not broken. She looks down at her swollen wrist which is mottled and bruised now.] I just need-- like more ice?

Better safe than sorry. You wouldn't want to wind up in a cast, would you?

[Because casts weren't fashionable, Alexis. Listen to your stupid boyfriend.]

[She makes a face at the idea of wearing a cast. She thinks on it for a beat before she gives a loud groan and blows out an even louder sigh. Few people can make her listen to reason like Matt does.]

Alright, fine. I'll see if I can get in with the doctor tomorrow.

If you can't, I know a few people that we could check in with.

[He heard that pout and sigh, and he turned his head to nuzzle a kiss against the side of her head.]

Better safe than sorry, Lexi.

[The kiss helps mollifies her. She's not responsible enough to have a primary care physician, so she figures she can find some kind urgent care or something like that.]

Who do you know?

A nurse. She's a great nurse.

[She'd sure as hell saved his life more than once. Bless Claire.]

What's her availability like?

[Maybe it's just easier to go see her instead.]

She usually works nights, but she's also a triage nurse. Maybe we'll just see about visiting a clinic in the morning...

[Claire put up with too much from him and Matt knew nothing was broken. Just bruised.]

Let's do that! We can get breakfast and then see her?

Maybe we could invite her over for breakfast? As a, ah, thank you?

Oh, that's a great idea! You don't think she'll mind coming over early?

Depends on your definition of 'early'. Get her going off shift and she'd consider breakfast a good dinner.

Is it too late to text her tonight and see if she can come?

If she's working, probably not.

Then text her and see if she's willing to come. I should have stuff to make breakfast.

[He had to pull his phone out and go through the process of speech to texting his handy nurse. With the caveat that if she was too busy or tired to not bother.]

[She almost leans in. However, she remembers that's rude and intrusive, so instead she rests her head on his shoulder.]

How did you two meet?

Mm? Oh. She, ah, found me one night when I'd had a bit of a tumble.

[Understatement of the century. Claire had saved his ass more than once and he owed her. Especially after his involvement with her had put her in danger. Sure, she was sleeping with Luke at the moment, and the man was literally bulletproof, but... potayto potahto.]

She's very no nonsense and can handle herself. A nurse that lives in Harlem has to be able to. If there's something that needs to be fixed, she'll at least point you in the right direction.

Alright, she sounds pretty cool. I hope it's just an easy fix and nothing too serious.

[She sounds like a badass honestly. She likes what she's seen of Matt's friends. They're down to earth and friendly. Alexis really wants them to like her since they're important to him.]

Ready to head to bed?

[Claire was his guardian angel- or one of them. Someone had been looking out for him when he'd pitched into her garbage dumpster and she'd been the one to tend to his wounds. Matt had already given thanks in church over that, more than once.

The offer to head to bed had him smiling, his hand lifting to smooth over her hair.]

All the excitement tire you out?

I guess so. It's been a long night. And all I want is just to curl up with you.

[She thinks nothing sounds better than that. With the wine coursing through her and the adrenaline rushing out of her, she feels heavy with fatigue. Maybe it's a good thing Matt defers her attempt to seduce him. Yawning, she takes his hand and leads her to her bedroom.] You know. I could really get used to having you in my bed.
