The evening had taken an interesting turn. And Jessica had found herself intrigued at the possibility of having sex with Matt. He had flirted with her shamelessly. And she had found herself flirting right back. It had definitely...been a while for her. She'd had a lot of other things on her mind.

But one night off from her self-loathing wasn't going to kill her, she supposed. Though she knew he knew she was already there, she knocked anyway. It was the polite thing to do or something.

"I'm here, Murdock."

[Most women likely balk at the idea of walking alone late at night. Alexis has never really been me of those women. She's been taken hostage too many times for her to really worry herself with getting mugged or murdered. At least, it's not at the forefront of her mind. Instead, she's strolling down the sidewalk to cute little brownstone she's been staying at in the city. She's just finished meeting some friends at a nearby bar. A girl's night. She finds that she's missed Matt all evening, so she's sending him a text to let him know she's almost home.

Maybe he'll even drop by later. She's really hoping he will. Her eyes are on her phone, so she doesn't notice the man that suddenly springs from the alley to haul her against him. There's a biting press of a cold blade against her throat as he demands her purse. She squeaks in surprise and a little bit of fear. Mostly, she's annoyed, and the man smells of sweat and stale beer.]

Oh my god, ew!

( matt's place was the first he checked after getting back in, taking a shower, and dressing down. but it was empty, and when bucky checked the chest, it was empty, too. unsurprising. even if matt weren't hard set on stopping crime in hell's kitchen, bucky knew his absence tended to give matt an itch to be doing more, even just to keep his mind off of things, to keep from entertaining the worst.

tracking him took a bit longer than anticipated, but with the serum's speed, he still made quick work of it. it was instead to his dismay that matt seemed to be struggling, stumbling on his feet with his back toward a wall as his attacker, some youthful gang type, came at him again with his modded bat. it was hard to tell what damage he might have already suffered either from this encounter or an earlier one, but knowing murdock, there was certainly something amiss about the way he held himself upright.

the soldier's pulse immediately spiked with realization, adrenaline prepping the charge in as he sprinted forward to block the strike. throwing out the vibranium arm to catch it, the wood instead splintered against the force thrown against it with a hollow crunch, and the punk's grasp was thrown back as the handle lost all the weight that had stabilized the swing.

with a curse, the bat was thrown at his face, a newly adapted weapon, but it didn't meet, a quick step to the side a simple enough task. with a scoff, bucky couldn't help but remark. )

You really need to work on your aim, kid.

( he was an hour later than he ought to be, weather having affected the flight time. three weeks. much as he'd enjoyed getting to get out and get some work done, it wasn't without its cost either, and the added delay only makes him antsy by the time they touch down.

while a brief thought reminded him to check on anything important that might have popped up in the news while he'd been airborne, he opened up a certain conversation and shot out a quick message first. )
